Hot on the heels of his success with Peyton and Byrne at Heal’s on London’s Tottenham Court Road, Oliver Peyton opens his second branch of acclaimed British bakery, Peyton and Byrne, at Wellcome Collection – a new £30m public venue from the Wellcome Trust opens on 21 June 2007.

The first venue of its kind in the UK, Wellcome Collection, located on Euston Road, is a unique mix of galleries, events, library, bookshop and members’ club, dedicated to exploring the connections between medicine, life and art.

The 45-cover self-service Peyton and Byrne café is situated in the ground floor lobby of Wellcome Collection, by Blackwell bookshop.

The menu, available to eat-in or take-out, is unmistakeably British and features an extended range of savouries which includes terrines and tarts as well as pies, soups, salads and grills. Must try dishes include savoury pots such as Goosenargh duck with pickled walnuts or smoked kipper and Drambuie pate; crofters pie; white onion and Caerphilly soup; and tomato and red onion tartlet.

Peyton and Byrne is also an absolute treasure trove of teatime treats – think jewel coloured pastries, classic cakes such as the Victoria sponge and the Dundee, whilst traditional biscuits, including homemade jammy dodgers and fabulous fig rolls, take you back to your childhood.

The food is complemented by Peyton and Byrne’s own range of exclusively blended teas including 13 loose leaf varieties and seven bagged, from the robust Builders’ Tea to the comforting and soothing Sleepy Tea made from a blend of Egyptian camomile with a sprinkle of spearmint and hint of orange peel.

So whether working in the relative culinary desert of the Euston area, visiting the galleries or looking to sample some of the best in British baking, head for the latest Peyton and Byrne at the exciting new Wellcome Collection.
